Simrishamn, Sjöbo, Skurup, Tomelilla, and Ystad share website and library catalog. This way we can offer you a greater range of books and media. You can use your library card at the libraries in all five municipalities.

Using the online catalog you can order books and media, then pick them up at the library closest to you. The tab We offer (Vi erbjuder) includes information on how to use our e-books and streaming audiobooks. You will also have access to a number of databases via your library card. Give PressReader a try, a service that gives you access to a large number of foreign (and Swedish) newspapers and magazines in full.

The tab Other languages includes lists of books written in other languages than Swedish. Here you will also find links to websites and apps that are useful when you are new in Sweden.

Terms and conditions

Borrowing books from the library is free of charge!

Library card

In order to get a library card, you must show your ID. By signing your name, you consent to the library’s terms and conditions and agree to let the library use your personal details for loans and orders. If you are under the age of 18, the form will need a signature from a parent or guardian. When you want to borrow a book from the library, bring your library card or ID. If you lose your card, contact the library and we can block it.

Loan period

The loan period is four weeks. The loan period for books with a waiting list is two weeks. DVDs have a loan period of seven days. When you borrow from the library you receive a receipt with the return date. You can receive emails to remind you to renew or return items. You are always responsible for returning the borrowed items in time.

Reservations

If the item you want is on loan, you can make a reservation. You can reserve items at the library, over the phone or on our website www.biblioteksso.se.

Interlibrary loans

Items that are not available at the libraries in Simrishamn/Tomelilla/Sjöbo/Sku­rup/Ystad can be requested from other libraries, called interlibrary loans. To order an interlibrary loan you need a library card. An interlibra­ry loan from libraries in Sweden costs 10 kronor. When you order an interlibra­ry loan from a library outside the Nordic countries an administration fee is applied. You can order interlibrary loans at the library or on our website. If you have questions regarding interlibrary loans, contact your library.

Requests of periodical copies, comes with a copying fee (2 kr per page) and sometimes an administration fee of 80-200 kr.

Renewing items

You can renew borrowed items twice. If an item has a waiting list, you cannot renew it. You can renew your books at the library, over the phone or on our web­site. If you want to renew an interlibrary loan, contact the library staff a few days before the book is due to be returned.

Charges and fines

The library will charge a fine for items that are returned late. If you are under the age of 18, there is no charge. No fines are charged for overdue children´s books.

Please note that the fees differ between the different municipalities and that the fees are determined by the library where the loan is made.

A parent or guardian is responsible for costs that can arise when children and teenagers use the library. Unpaid invoices go to the debt collector. Talk to the library staff well in advance!

An interlibrary loan costs 10 kr. In Simrishamn, if you lose the yellow slip that comes with the book, 10 kr is charged.

If you owe more than 100 kr, your library card is blocked until you pay the debt.

If you do not return late items despite several reminders, the library sends an invoice.

If you return the item, the invoice is cancelled*.

*Loans made in Sjöbo, Simrishamn and Skurup: Please note that when an invoice is sent, you cannot return the book. When you have paid the invoice, the item belongs to you.

Paid invoices are non-refundable.

The libraries in Simrishamn, Sjöbo, Skurup, Tomelilla och Ystad share the library catalogue and you can use your library card at the libraries in all five municipalities.

Information on the library´s processing of personal data according under GDPR and secrecy

To be able to fulfil our agreement with you as a borrower and user of our services, the libraries must save and process your personal data. The data we save is name, address, e-mail, telephone number, personal code number and an internal identification number.

We received data from you when you registered as a member of the library. Guardians have submitted information about children under the age of 18. You must submit your personal data so that we can enter into an agreement with you. The updating of certain personal data comes from the population register SPAR.* We apply current Internet legislation with all processing of personal data. Your data will be saved in our library system for three years after the latest use of the card.

The personal data we save about you are shared between the libraries in Simrishamn, Sjöbo, Skurup, Tomelilla, Ystad and the personal data processors we use to perform our services and fulfil our obligations towards you. We might also share your personal data with a third party, if we are obliged to do so according to the law. We will however never transfer your data to another country outside the EU.
